Ford Transit Custom 290 L2 125ps Trend

The all new Ford Transit Custom van range was released in 2013 to offer the Mid sized van market offering operators of the type a distinct model with payloads up to 1500kg. there are two differing types within the range of ECOnetic models with a choice of short (L1) or long wheelbase (L2) and 2700kg, 2900kg or 3100kg GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass). Available new or used, this vehicle has pushed the Ford range to new hieghts in van operations.

All Transit Custom vans come with Ford's 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine available in three power outputs of 100bhp, 125bhp and 155bhp, and a six-speed manual gearbox. All models are front-wheel drive and deliver a claimed fuel consumption figure of between 39-42mpg, with emission levels of 178-189g/km of CO2. Customers can opt for dedicated ECOnetic Transit Custom vans in both SWB and LWB forms, or an ECOnetic Technology pack on most models in the range. The ECOnetic models use a specially calibrated 100bhp engine with auto start-stop, smart regenerative charging – where the alternator works harder when the van is braking or decelerating, using less engine power during acceleration – a gearshift indicator in the dash, a switchable speed limiter, a battery management system and aerodynamic wheel trims. The result is a claimed fuel consumption of up to 46.3mpg and CO2 emissions of just 162g/km. Service intervals have been set at a market-leading two years or 30,000 miles.

The Transit Custom’s load space is impressive in all three dimensions: load length, width (from wheel arch to wheel arch) and usable interior height. As a result, it can easily carry standard 8’ x 4’ boards placed on their side or flat on the floor, three euro pallets and, thanks to its unique load-through storage area, items up to 3m long. Overall, the van provides a cavernous 6 cubic metres of load space with a bulkhead fitted – and that’s just the short wheelbase (L1) version. The long wheelbase (L2) offers 6.8 cubic metres. Access to load space is unparalleled too, as the Transit Custom has the widest side load door opening of any vehicle of its type, a remarkable opening height and the lowest rear access step. The sliding doors also have a new checking mechanism which holds them securely open for loading.

With Ford SYNC voice control, you can control your music. You can also make and receive mobile phone calls, hands-free, using simple, intuitive voice commands. For example, if you simply say “Call home”, the system will call your home (assuming ‘Home’ appears in your mobile phone’s contact list). It will even read out loud the text messages sent to your mobile.*

SYNC also enables you to play tracks from a USB or MP3/iPod, or stream music from your mobile, using the same kind of simple voice commands. So you can always keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. Another important feature is Emergency Assistance. Provided your mobile phone is connected to SYNC, this technology can use it to help call the emergency services, if it detects you’ve had an accident.

Options include Reverse sensors, automatic rain wiper activation with 6 stage sensors, Auto headlamps, screen heater for easier demisting and defrosting, auto high beam, power folding rear view mirrors and Cruise Control with Adjustable Speed Limiter.

The Ford Transit Custom is a sound choice for purchase or lease in the mid Sized van sector either new or used.
